I'm just curious as to whether or not being in LE has changed your religious beliefs (whatever they may be) if at all and how. With all the things you see and experience every day I'm wondering if that has any effect on your beliefs. Thanks.

Interesting question. I was rasied by the typical Irish/Italian family. My parents were Catholic. But...it was limited practicing. My mom used to take up to church weekly. I never saw my dad with us unless it was Christmas or a holiday. My three sisters and I were sent to a Catholic School from K-12. I then went to a Jesuit College. By the time I was done, I can say I was a non-practicing Catholic, except for holidays.
But as came on the job, and time has progressed, I am going back to church and have been attending regularly. Especially since I have gotton married. My wife only goes on holidays and when her parents are around to go. I go on my own a lot.
I still have a lot of doubts and questions. But I go. It makes me feel better on many levels.

Makes it a lot easier if you believe in something.

I have always been active in the Church as a child and in my adult life ..... as I became a Police Officer, I have come to rely on meditation and prayer. If anything, seeing what I have experienced, only strenghten my religious life ...Originally Posted by cacy87

During a recent life altering event, one of the first things I did was ask god to help me make it home to my family at the end of the day. I made it, some other people didn't. My faith has grown stronger each day I survive, and If I'm dead I won't need faith because I'll be dead.![]()

They just preached to me the principals of being a good "solid" person (ie-don't steal, integrity, do your best etc...)
After seeing the things I used to be told about...meth-houses, situations with kids, people doing just plain evil things to each other etc... I'm just starting to believe that alot of people are just a waste of oxygen. There are those types, and good people.
I'm not an athiest, I do believe in God. I don't practice however. Hopefully this won't earn me red stickies, just being honest.
In my opinion, believing is practicing. You don't have to go to church, or run around preaching the gospel to everyone your run into.Originally Posted by JR_23
Your relationship with God is very personal and between the two of you. The way I practice my religion may be different from the way you do it. My wife and I have this discussion all of the time as she is a very old-school catholic, and I'm a very non-traditional catholic (who likes to make cracks about the "church").
Just be true to your relationship....Pray for help during the bad times, and don't forget to give thanks during the good times. And try to treat everyone with the amount of respect they deserve....whether it is a lot, or none.
Okay, lecture over, back to sarcasm!!!

That's a good quote, and a good perspective...
Its good to hear that LE made your beliefs stronger. I was curious because I didn't know if seeing all the horrible things you see would make you question if there is a god and if so why he allows such horrible things to happen. I also completely agree that you don't need to go to church every Sunday to believe in god. Maybe its because I'm 17 and I'm still forced to go to church every week (well every week that I don't have a game or something going on), but I sincerely believe in my religion. Church is a good way to reflect on the week and everything but I can do that on my own, and I do.
Sundays don't seem to have any importance anymore. I think its sad, people should atleast be able to enjoy one day of the week with their families, in church or just resting. I guess if I want to go into LE I should get used to working weekends huh?
So did I. I had a hard time understanding how I was so hell bound when I was 8 years old. I left that church a long time ago. No offense intended to practicing Southern Baptists, but the church I knew as a kid was a pretty dismal place to learn about Go.Originally Posted by qpd158
But being spiritual and religiious is not necessarily synomous. I've had a strong connection with God for a lot of years and still have daily chats with Him. Kept me from eating my gun a long time ago.
