    Question Testing after being hired?

ok, so you've gone through your probationary period after being hired, is the job every day after that just to do your shift day in and day out or are there tests you have to go through to make sure your still fit for the job? By fit I mean of course physically and your knowledge of how to do your job.

The job itself is a daily test. Everyone will know soon enough if you aer not capable of doing your job.

You will be challenged mentally, physically and emotionally every day on the job. People do not call 911 because they are having a wonderful time. And YOU get to deal with the PROBLEMS of the world. Everybody likes to call the police to complain.

Yeah, we only get the "wonderful time" gone bad calls. :(

Just once I'd like to hear something like this:

    "911 what's your emergency?"
"Oh, HI.. We're having a party and we're wondering if you can send a few officers over".
"Would this be a RSVP function, ma'am?"
"No, but an immediate response would be appreciated"
"You bought a very large ice cream cake didn't you ma'am?"
    "yes sir.. I did"
    "We'll dispatch officers immediately ma'am"
    "Oh, thank you SO much"

When people encounter a situation in which they don't know to do, they call the Police. And remember, no two situations are alike.

In our department, we get evaluated by supervisors and have to perform PT, both yearly. The Physical Training got suspended for a couple of years due to threat of lawsuit from some of the really overweight head honchos. But it's back. Luckily....when I get back from the police academy, I'll be whipped into shape. (My academy date was changed, now I leave in on Easter Sunday). OH JOY.

The only "tests" for us are firearms and defense and arrest tactics. If you are not up to par you get some additional training.
