    stupid question

I have been on these boards for quite awhile and ashamed that I don't really know what a automatic disqualifier is. Its when regardless of the circumstances it will end your hopes. Is that saying that if something is not a automatic disqualifier that you could get dq'd or have no trouble at all?

If you have an automatic disqualifier it means don't waste your time or our time by applying. Your application will go straight to trash. An example for my agency would be any illegal use of a Schedule II drug such as heroin, LSD, cocaine, meth. Just because something is not an automatic DQ doesn't necessarily mean you may not get dropped from the application process. Technically a DUI is not an auto DQ if it happened more than X number of years ago, but I don't know of any of my coworkers that have one.

Basically if it's not an automatic disqualifier stated in dept policy, then it is the dept's discretion on deciding on anything else to keep you in the hiring process.. ;)
