    police impersonation

If I were to accuse someone of impersonating a police officer on private property, would I call the local police department? Would this be any help or do the actual police have to catch the person doing it?

What makes you think this person is impersonating a police officer?

If you genuinely feel that someone is not a police officer, then call your local police (or 911) and let them know.

If you rob a gas station, you're only going to get about $100, but I get to see a K9 dog use your arm as a chew toy. For all I care you can keep the $100.

Showing off a police badge but it does not have the badge number on it. I didn't see an ID card either.

He didn't threaten to arrest anyone but just showing his badge off.

Have you seen what a real badge looks like to be able to identify a false one?

My badge doesn't have a number on it.

Then how do you know he isn't a police officer ? I used to have a badge that had a letter on it instead of a number.

Our badges aren't numbered, either. They are also not always displayed right next to our ID, depending on how it's being worn/carried.

Doesn't the badge have to say the police department you are working for as well? His just said "police officer."

I would suggest before you start accusing people of impersonation you find out what a real police badge looks like.

    That's my advice.

Unless there's more to this? Why was he 'flashing his badge around' in the first place?

There was a conversation about how he pulls over vehicles in his own car. He has the strobe light you plug into the car charger and he has no sirens. He also stated that he just became a police officer and we asked if we could see his badge. Are there a lot of variations in police badges? I searched online for collectable police badges and they all stated the organization.

Well, I'm sure he told you which organisation he works for.

The next thing I would be doing, if I were you, is ringing the department and asking if so-and-so works there and/or to see if you could go in and see a police badge so you know what they look like for future reference.
