I was accepted to do my intership this summer with a local PD. I'm wondering what you guys think about interns before you meet them. Thank you for any feedback.

Interns = college = going the xtra mile in education...you're off to a good start in my book, but I can't say I like anyone until I meet them.
A minor typo correction for you: as an intern, you are doing and internship (not the "n"). Our department has two kinds of interns, undergrad and graduate students. Graduate students get to work in areas where undergrad ones do not due to confidential information (ex: Internal Affairs, Office of the Sheriff, and Public Information Office). I don't prejudge anyone, intern or otherwise, but generally the interns we have are good kids. I was and intern with my department before taking my current position, so it can help you to get a foot in the door for sworn positions, if that is what you're interested in. Two free tips of advice for you during your internship:Originally Posted by dan44321
(1) As people who work with the department serious questions about their position (ex: don't ask questions like, "how many people have you shot", but rather something more like, "what does it take to become a K9 officer").
(2) Do what you're asked of, and do it in a timely manner. Some interns in our department do nothing but sit around and observe what's going on. To me, that's a wasted opportunity. Offer to give a hand when appropriate, and be someone the department can use for various jobs. I volunteered for assignments that were mundane (typing documents, copying forms, etc.), but in the long run it paid off. I participated in training with our department's crisis negotiations team and swat team, as well as went on a serving of a warrant on a joint case with the FBI. Only two interns went on the first outing, and I was the only intern present for the second. Point is, if you show you've got a strong work ethic and can be depended on, they will be more inclined to give you opportunities other interns may not get.

Peace is not the absence of conflict, but the presence of justice.
My new hero!
We have already arrested one of our interns.
