    Reality vs. TV

I was just wondering what bugs cops the most about the way they are portrayed on tv? What's different about being a real cop compared to a tv cop? I need something I can quote for an article.

TV Cops get to do real cool stuff, and they get the greatest hightech equipment.

I often get annoyed by seeing any one of the following mistruths about the profession in a show:

    1. Detectives in movies/tv bending the rules and their supervisors being okay with it because they got the job done ("Beverly Hills Cop" anyone?).

    2. The fact that every case is solved, and in a hour hour to an hour, nonetheless (Hollywood has never heard of the term "cold case").

    3. Criminal interrogations that involve rerating the suspect by verbal assaults and/or physical abuse (yeah, that will stand up in court  ).

    Add.

    4. That we are all drunks, with lots of personal and family problems, who brood all day at the job, and have no life.

    5. Officer involved shootings that are perceived as no big deal, and where the officer is back on the street the next day, and has to shoot somebody else.

    6. That the lone wolf, hot dog, psycho cop, is the most valuable man in the unit, who solves all of the important cases.

TV Cops can sleep with as many badge bunnies as they want, and have no potential ramifications. Most real life Cops wouldn't touch a badge bunny with a 10 foot pole.

TV Cops can repeatedly verbally and physicaly abuse suspects, TV Cops can also take witnesses and "toss em in the wagon", forcing them to go downtown for an interview.
