    Meaning of the uniform

I know the title sucks but I'm not very imaginative today. I was wondering if the police uniform has any special meanings behind it like Marine Dress Blues do. An example of this would be the 13 buttons on the Dress Blue uniform stands for the original 13 colonies and the bloodstripe on the trousers representing the NCO and officers that died (stripe width determines). I was curious if any of the police uniforms have any special meanings like that.
I'm Hub McCann. I've fought in two World Wars and countless smaller ones on three continents. I led thousands of men into battle with everything from horses and swords to artillery and tanks. I've seen the headwaters of the Nile, and tribes of natives no white man had ever seen before. I've won and lost a dozen fortunes, killed many men and loved only one woman with a passion a flea like you could never begin to understand. That's who I am. Now, go home, boy!

Well, our uniforms were grey. The stetson had a purple band, and the tie was purple. That color related to the Praetorian Guard of ancient Rome. They wore purple togas which signified they were the "police force" for the Roman Empire.

Yeah, it means "he's dressed the same as I am so don't shoot at him"

In all seriousness, we wear dark green uniforms. Supposedly these came from the prohibition era when officers here would routinely have to go into the woods to find bootleggers and stills. The green provided camo

Not sure about my uniform, but I know our badge can be broken down so that each little item has a meaning.

I don't know of any official meaning, at least I've never been told...Cops wear uniforms. I do know the most important reason though....

Not sure if there's any secret-squirrel meaning behind our department's uniform design (I've been told the design is simply based on the preference of the sheriff), though I have a theory. Our uniforms include a tan colored shirt and brown pants. I think this is to help our deputies blend in when where "in the sh*t" ( :D ).

    NYPD Uniform

I'm not quite sure of the meaning of the uniform, but I do know that NYPD was voted 2004 Best Dressed Law Enforcement / City with Over 200 Officers by the National Association of Uniform Manufacturers and Dealers. http://naumd.com/%20BDPD2004-Pages/NYPD.htm

Easy job, my UHTR tab is next to the RP tab. Enjoy those 12 hours. Our GD start next month on a trial.

I know of significant issue with our uniform other than it was changed from black to blue b/c black upset too many europeans that migrated here post WWII I think.

The meaning of the uniform is so that we are...uniform !! Not to mention the public should easily be able to recognize a LEO by what they wear.

    Meaning of the uniform

Ours came about after some strategic thinking and planning from the higher ups.
The local police supply had alot of stuff in stock because the City PD bought their stuff there thus aside from the patch we have the same uniform as the City officers.

I think ours orginially came from the store that could give the biggest kickback to the chief of police!
