How long does the stripe stay on?

    Hello,

    I was wondering,

When an officer passes away, and the black stripe is worn on the badge. How long does it stay on there? Is it just for the ceremony? Or will it be for a period of time?

Also if it's for a period of time, how long does this last (i know most of you havent hade an officer die at your department while you have been workin there, but hopefully you know)

Also, usaully at an officers funeral, do you have to wear your uniform?

    -Thank you everyone.

    -Adam

The black mourning band usually is worn for 10 days with us. I know of no set rule , but there could be one.

It is MOST appropriate for a LEO to wear their uniform at the funeral of a fellow LEO. I am getting a dress uniform for formal occasions , I pay $195 for the jacket and the dept supplies everything else.

We wear ours the moment we hear about the death and we wear it until sundown on the day of the funeral. Yes it is most appropriate to wear your dress uniform at the funeral.

Be advised, I'm mean nasty and tired. I eat concertina wire and piss napalm and I could put a round through a fleas *** at 300 yards. So why don't you hump somebody else's leg mutt-face before I push yours in.

Since we never lost an officer in the line of duty, thank god, I can only tell you what I know from other departments in the area. I always heard that if the officer was killed in the line of duty, the black band is worn for 30 days. If the officer died while still on the job, but not work related, the band is worn from 3-10 days.

I have read that if it is an officer in your agency, then you wear the band 15 days after the funeral. If it is just in your region, then it is until the midnight after the funeral. Here is where I read it http://www.odmp.org/resources/mourning.php
