    Police Academy Question

I was wondering if anyone could try to give me a little insight as to what the PT is like at the academy. I am currently active duty military and plan on going to a civilian law enforcment academy next year in Passaic County, NJ. I would just like to know what to expect so that I can better prepare myself. Particularly when it comes to the run.

    Thanks,
    Ryan

If you are active duty military, then you should have a fairly good idea of what to expect. It will most likely be similar to whst you went through in Basic.

Haven't been in the military (yet), but I've been told academy PT is comparable to bootcamp/basic training for the military. Some departments are more like the Marines, where as I think mine was more like the Air Force (only kidding USAF people :D ).

So youre saying they didnt make you run at all? SIGN ME UP. Lol.

Well thats somewhat of a relife to hear. In boot camp we ran about 2-3 miles a day 3 times a week. Sometimes it would be more but the norm was 2-3.

I was told by another policeman that in the academy I will be running 10 miles 5 days a week and up! Lol, I dont know about that, maybe he was trying to scare me or impress me, I dont know. The Marines run 3-5 miles 3 days a week in boot camp, I dont really see a police academy cadet having to run further then them.

Anyway thanks for the tips. If anyone can let me know about their experiences please post it. Thanks again

Depends on the academy. Some are boot camp based, others like mine are more academic and concentrate more on teaching. They figure if you passed the initial physical agility test, you don't need PT. It's not like you're going to do it once you get on the job.
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine
