    Employment

I am married to a convicted felon, does that ruin my chances of ever having a career in criminal justice or of becoming a police officer?

What did your spouse do that they got convicted.

I would not say it's an automatic no.. But the BI will definitally be giving yours some extra review to see what they did and who else you associate with.

Who you associate with can have a considerable bearing on if you do get hired or not.

My husband has a long history of burgularies, possesion of stolen weapons. But he is the only person that I associate with that has a criminal history. Are they going to ask me if I associate with any convicted felons?

He sounds like a real winner. Usually people who get married have things in common, so I'm curious (and I'd suspect a BI would be as well) as to what you have in common with a convicted felon with a history of burglaries and possession of stolen weapons.

If you want a job in Law Enforcement...get out of that relationship, now. Sounds cold, but those aren't petty anty felonies....and it's a HISTORY.

Even if you did get hired, I predict that this combination would be nothing but trouble for you down the road.

Why do you say that it would be trouble for me down the road? I believe in criminals paying the prices for the crimes that they commit. I have even turned him in when he has commited a crime, because I believe that everyone should obey the laws.

It's entirely possible that buddy1 is a troll spouting off just to annoy, but then again it's possible that this is actually true (which is even more ridiculous).

Go in and tell this statement when they are giving you the initial interview or panel interview, as I'm pretty sure this won't win them over. There are far more applicants who do not have any ties to criminals, much less living with one.

I can't help the fact that I am married to a convicted felon, we have been married for 12 years, and he has made a change in his life. He is no longer involved in the things that he used to be.

Why is my wanting to be come a Law Enforcement Officer a joke? I have always had a vision that I wanted to be involved in Law Enforcement. I am currently going to school for a degree in Criminal Justice. If you think that I am wasting my time, let me know.

OK from your posts here the final jepardy answer for you..

No you will not be getting into an LE or criminal justice field.

Why, you ask. Because of being married to a convicted felon will put enough red marks on your file that you will be placed below many other qualified applicants.

What you do now.. Find a new career that you would be interested in working in.
