Computer and Technology Evidence Collection Team

Hey, I'm in the NYPD Academt right now and am finding it difficult to find info about the Computer and Technology Evidence Collection Team...it seems like a place I would like to go to being that I know the insides of computers very well and know how to restore deleted files. I understand that its something I can't go into for a few years, but does anybody have any info on it? What its like? Does pay increase, stay the same? How hard it might be to get in? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    1) Small unit. That measn few guys/gals....and no openings unless somebody leaves. Info is minimal for security reasons. Nobody needs to know what they do. But, they do exist. There are 2 units: online crimes unit...forensic units that work in the lab, reading a dn decoding and the like of computers taken as evidence. The second is much easier to get to, but is usually a civilian lab technician, not a officer.

    2) Pay increase? Guy....your in the academy and haven't figured this out? They guy on patrol, makes the same as they guy in the photo unit of 1 PP taking pictures. No units get more money. It is called a CONTRACT and teh PBA would not allow such. The only way to get more money is to get a rank.

    3) Hard? try with less than 5 years on.....impossible. Try with 10 years on? Maybe...if one of the few decide it is time to leave and you are current on everything. It is one of those units, like Harbor, once your in, you don't leave till you have 20 years on. And even then people don't leave.

ok, well thank you for your info...i know some units do make more money, like narcotics, which is why i asked, not necessarily base is higher, probably most of it is overtime, but in either case, i figure its worth looking into, even if its 10yrs away.

Narcotics does not have a higer base. No unit does! The only way to get $ is to work OT.
