    I need the truth

I was in an academy last year for about 2 months. I was allready hired by the agency, they were paying me. After two months a decided I was not ready to handle some of the things that cops have to handle. For example, child cases, molecstations or anything negative having to do with children, long story short I resigned from that academy. I think it had something to do with me having a 5 month old daughter.I went back to school to get my B.S. I will graduate in a year I was thinking about reapplying for to that agency. It will be 2.5 years since I left the agency. My question was do I have a chance with that agency or with any other agency. I was doing very well in the academy and I left on good terms.

You haven't mentioned if the way you felt earlier about dealing with child molestation or other crimes against children has altered and if so, what changed.

Do you still think you couldn't handle some of the stuff that comes up in this line of work? If you feel like now you are equipped to deal with it, then I would say you still have a chance.

    The Truth

Well, if you want the truth. What has changed in your ability to be able to handle those things you felt that you would be unable to just 2 1/2 years ago?

Will you be one of those officers who whines that they can't handle this sort of case or that sort of case because "you have small children at home" and then expect others to handle your job for you? Have you developed the ability to handle incidents that you find distasteful?

Only you know the answers to those questions.

Personally, if you want to re-apply because your child is a bit older and you now feel that you want to get back into police work but your own limitations are still present you should not do it. If your mental strength has increased and are now mentally prepared to handle cases that you find distasteful, then test away.

Just be prepared to justify leaving the department that hired you high and dry.

I think that it is combo of a few things. First I realize that I would be helping these children. Second, for the last year I have thought about the decison I made and sometimes I wish i would have cowboyed up as you say it, but other times I feel that I have learned alot in the last year on how to deal with this sort of thing through friends that are officers.. and yes I do know that everyone deals with these things differently. I would definitely not want to be,nor would I ever use that excuse of I have children at home to not do my job. Do officers actually do that? Well thank you guys very much it does give me something to think about

Since you "quit" on them before, I think they would be concerned about your second try. But you won't know if you don't apply.

That seems like a weird reason to resign  . We all understand what you're saying, nobody enjoys going into a filthy house and seeing kids living in that environment....you just do the best you can, and hope that DSS will do their job (DSS could be put into an entirely different thread, I have issues with them).
