    State Police Arrests (IL?)

I was wondering what the State Police (especially in IL) do with arrestees immediately? Do they transport them to the district State Police headquarters, or do they take them to the county jail?

If a person were arrested for DUI, where are they taken, immediately.

At any rate, in certain areas, it could be a very long drive with a possibly violent, beligerant, noisy, or angry prisoner.

I don't know if the "car options" differ by district, but when a State Trooper lived near me, I noticed that there was no cage in the back of the car. I don't know if this is true of all troopers, or if it was because he mostly likely worked for the Tollway district.

Troopers don't need no stinkin' cages!! (They never gave us any, at any rate, so I guess somebody figured we didn't need 'em!)

In Chicago, they transport them to the nearest Chicago P.D. station.

Given that there are several ISP working in my area, I have noticed that only a few of them have got a cage. As for where they take someone, typically they take them to the nearerst County Jail.

In my state the state police transport to the jail of the jurisdiction they are in. They utilize the DUI breath test there as well as the magistrates. The charges are filed in that jurisdiction. I have frequently sat with troopers in my court.

We take prisoners to the closest Magistrate, although, sometimes I drive to one further away so I can get a live person instead of the Video Magistrate. And we still don't have no stinking cages in Virginia. I'm not sure that we ever will either. Very few State Police/Patrol agencies have cage cars.

I personally don't mind not having a cage car. The only thing I ever use the backseat for is storing gear/forms. I've got so much equipment issued I feel like I need to tow a U-Haul behind me to lug it all around.

I don't know how you guys can stand to sit next to perps for the ride to jail. Sometimes the barrier isn't enough for the stink etc. At least when a drunk pisses himself and vomits it's in the back and I can yank out the seat and spray it all out...

You are definitely right about all that! I was always thankful when I was lucky enough to a) have a partner; b) the partner was junior to me....that way, HE got to ride in back with the scumbag, his pis, and his puke!!
