    Back seat seating.

Do you think it's safe to place the criminal/suspect, etc... in the back drivers side, or the back passager side?

On the rare occasions I place a crook in the back of a sedan as opposed to the van, they ALWAYS sit on the back passenger side and my partner sits next to them.
It's harder to distract the driver into crashing by kicking the passenger seat, rather than the driver's seat.

Other sedans have a pod section which is completely sealed off from the front and sepearated by thick plastic, so it doesn't matter where the bad guy sits.
    .

If you rob a gas station, you're only going to get about $100, but I get to see a K9 dog use your arm as a chew toy. For all I care you can keep the $100.

I prefer the rear passenger side. A majority are right handed so it sort of jams their strong hand / side into a corner and would have to engage in much more movement to do something. It's also easier to take a quick look back at 'em when they're on that side.

If I have a cage car, the BG goes in the rear passenger side. If not, then he rides up front with me.

We don't have cages so we place the suspect in the back passenger with a colleague sitting behind me.

I am continually suprised by those that allow the BG to ride up front with you. I am not "badmouthing " you , just suprised. Beyond that, we never have an officer ride in the back with a BG. They are caged in alone.

When we got cage cars it realy didn't mater to me where they sat back there. I think its just kind of natural thing to move them as far away from you as you can get them.

Before cage cars we used to have them ride up front with us. If it was a two man unit we would have a Deputy site behind the arrrestee so they could grab them from behind if we needed to. If we had two arrestee's a Deputy would sit in the back with one on the opposite side from his/her weapon. When we were alone, we would dive with a flashlihght in our lab in case we needed to reach out and touch someone. If we were alone we would not transport more than one at a time.

    mcsap-

Trust me...NOT my first choice. But given the option between having them next to me, or behind me with no cage (even on the passenger side) I'd rather have them up front. Ususally it isn't an issue for me, as my assigned vehicle is a cage car.

I understand fully. All of our marked cars have cages , except the supervisor cars. I get my troops to do my transports.
