    Academy

Ok, I am currently a 911 dispatcher, with near future plans on being a Deputy Sheriff. Well, I have two girlfriends who just recently dropped out of the academy. One because of fact that she too was a dispatcher(for 3 yrs and knew most of the sgt's and PT's) and they were really hard on her. My other friend dropped out because they made her lead the class in marching...she had no prior military experience, there for she had no idea how to march as well as everyone being hard on her (she too has been a dispatcher for 3yrs).
Now what I am really getting to here is, aren't there alot of people who go into the academy w/o having military experience and do good in the academy? Also is there anything I should be doing to prepare for the academy other than working out and studying laws and p.c.'s? Or is that for you guys to know and me to find out?
Thanks for taking the time to ready my book!

They didn't drop out because people were hard on them. They dropped out because they couldn't take it. The streets make the academy look like Kindergarten. If they can't take someone getting on their case about something, they will put a lot of people in danger on the streets.

They've got us surrounded? Good. Now we can fire in any direction, those bastards wont get away this time

The academy NEEDS to be hard just like basic training. If you can't hack it in a controlled environment, you won't be able to hack it on the street.

In my academy we had 1 out of 20 who were ex military. We had a dispatcher from our department in there, and a guy who had left the PD twice and had come back for the 3rd time.

    No one quit.

Your friends not being in the military had nothing to do with them quitting.

People who quit always like to have some excuse why they couldn't continue. They like to justify their actions to themselves and others. But the bottom line is they just coundlt hack it. They couldnt take the pressure. It's just a head game with some physical training tossed in. If you show a weakness or fear, they will try to play on it to see how you will handle it.

Realistically, would you want someone backing you up in the middle of a firefight if they couldn't even take the stress of marching?

Hey thanks guys, I totally agree but thought I was being harsh. I just needed to confirm. And no...I wouldn't want someone backing me up anywhere who couldn't even hold their own weight(scary)! The girls that dropped out of the academy were trying to tell me not apply as deputy yet because I wasn't ready?!?! Can you imagine that? But anyways thanks guys, oh if you have any tips to prepare, pass them on all ears open.
