I realise this is my second post withing about 10 minites but I'm full of questions. One thing I would like to know is what the difference between a Police Department and a County Sheriff is?

Most, but not all Police Department are run by a City, Town, Village or Township. Sheriffs are usually an elected position, primary duty of running a county jail, and work for a County Jurisdiction. This may vary from state to state. There are also Metro Police Departments which usually work under an agreement between a city and county, and cover both areas.
