    Retension Holsters/Handcuffs

What is probably the best Retension Holster and Most effective? And is there any type of handcuff that prevents the criminal from tampering with it? say a suspect has a hidden handcuff key, how do you prevent him from using this?

Im currently heading towards the field of law enforcement, and I want to be as safe as possible while doing my job.

I'll leave the retention holster up to someone else, but as far as preventing the defeat of the handcuffs, do as thorough a search as you can. Never cuff to the front, always to the back with the backs of the wrists facing each other and make sure the key hole is towards the head not the fingers. and double lock the cuffs. Hinged cuffs make it even harder for the subject to maneuver their hands. I believe most times that a subject has been able to escape cuffs they have been improperly cuffed. While struggling with them it's hard to get them cuffed as per text book, so get them on any way you can. But when they are under control and you have assistance, recuff them properly before transporting.

The best holster will depend on the pistol. As for the cuffs, treat them like what they are.

Yeah I have heard of the double lock handcuffs, but all that does is prevent the suspect from picking the lock, not a handcuff key

Officers should have some sort of slide over flap for the keyhole.

I don't believe there is a "best" retention holster. The top retention is level III, which is what I carry. It has two different snaps and a rocking motion before the gun can be taken out. I am just as fast with it then a level II holster or probably some level I holsters. My dept issues level III's, so that's what we carry.

Like TXinvestigator says proper application. Also don't transport by yourself if you don't have to, have a second officer in the back seat with the prisoner. If another office risn't available hopefully you have a cage car, whenever I had someone in custody and I was by my self with a cage I put them in the front seat so I could keep an eye on them, not the best way but I had good contact with them. Still cuff behind the back!!!
