He needs to clarify what he is talking about. Technically he could be right...but it needs clarification.

The following applies to all residents of NY State, except law enforcement officers.

NY State issue 2 types of pistoil permits: target/hunting and conceal. You apply at your local county PD or town clerk and there is a 6 month process. As long as you are clean, you can get a hunting/target. As for the conceal....it depends on each county. Some give'em...others don't. In these same counties, you can walk in and buy any rifle or shot-gun and walk out with it. No permits are necessary.

But, a NY State license IS NOT VALID IN NEW YORK CITY. PERIOD! NO EXCEPTIONS!

If you want a gun in NY City, any gun, pistol or rifle or shotgun, you need to get a permit from the NY City Police Department. We issue a few typs of permits:

    a) Residential premise permit: allows a specified weapon to be a specifc address. Such as you can have a gun registered to 123 Main Street where you live. It can not be carried or kept anywhere but your home address. (Easy to get.)

    b) Commercial Premise Permits: same as residential but at a business. Like teh corner store with a gun under the counter. Any employee over 21 can use it....and if within the deadly force laws of NY State, they will be deemed to be properly licensed if they were in the store or within a few feet of the door. (Easy to get.)

    c) Carry Business: show a ned to carry for work related reasons (bodygurad to a big time celeb). You get a full concealed carry privlege. (Impossible to get)

    d) Limited Carry Business: You are allowed to carry a specific gun to and from specific locations during specific times if you show proof. This is for the diamond district transporters/salesmen who pick up thier load on Wednesdasy at 2 and need to walk it back in their briefcase to their offfice. (Can get...but employment must have large $ or jewelery ...like over a million)

    e) Guard License: Security gurads in NY state must be state certified by taking a 8 hour course. If they need to carry a gun for work, they take a Guard Gun Course whihc is 40 hours. The company owns teh gun, and it is kept in a gun safe on company property. A guard comes in, changes, signs in and signs out a gun with keys. He returns it at the end of the day. These licenses are for those guards and for armor car guys. When they are not working, they can not have a gun. (Easy with proper documents).

    f) Special Licenses: for those who have CCW license in other NY counties or out of state licenses. If they acting as a guard (bodyguard) or doing business which requires large cash/jewls, the can be issued a NYC license whihc is only valid if they have their original county/state license and teh terms are currently being met. So if Cher is in town and in her hotel, but her bodyguard is out on the town having fun and has his gun....he is a collar since he is not actively doing his duties with his weapon. Or if a jewler is done doing business and out on the town and has his gun...same rules apply...he is a collar. (Almost impossible to get.)

Now, if you have a valid NYC permit for carry.....it is valid in ALL OF NEW YORK STATE.
But remember, a NYS license issued from anywhere except NYC, IS NOT VALID IN NYC.

So if your friend has no permit......he is correct. He can't have a Glock, or Sig or S&W or Remmington, etc... If he has a permit, he is incorrect. We do not ban certain types of guns in NYC, except assault weapons. We have no ban on Glocks...you just need an appropiate license.

Thanks Joey.....your fingers must be cramped as all hell from typing all that. All I really needed to hear was the last paragraph that you wrote.

Oh what the hell....at least it was some good finger exercise right? :D

Thanks again to both Joey and OT!
