Hey ya'll!
So what do you LEO's think about the show COPS? Personally I LOVE it. Does it show the reality behind being a police officer? Any of you ever been on it?

It sucks. Great for bad examples in training though. It's edited to the max and does not show reality.

COPS was actually used as training video in my Academy as WHAT NOT TO DO!! As far as the reality goes....almost none. They forgot to show the endless hours of report writing and officers having to deal with the booking process (especially MTs) or the lovely civilian property clerks (they are my FAVORITE!!)!

Really?
What bonehead moves did you see that were shown to you or that you picked up on? I saw one episode, and the cops ended a pursuit and this guy started walking down the freeway backwards with a knife to his throat, and when they charged him one cop shot him in the stomach and with TIVO I was able to see that he had already dropped the knife! I could tell the cop was not happy he did it either.
On another episode a cop tackled this chick from behind with a knife in her hand and when they rolled her over, it was sticking out of her belly. I'm sure he could hve done something else. Taser, or mace, or what not.

What smells? First hand experience of what? That he could have used other means of non-deadly force? I think he could have
In hindsight........... Unless it's pure "T" asinine action by LE, we don't Monday Morning Quarterback, b/c we were not there at that time, in THAT situation. Every.... EVERY LE incident is different.Originally Posted by Let me At em
And you, not LE, have no business whatsoever to second guess one who protects you.

Yeah, since I am paying them with my taxes, I can second guess their actions all I want. And if I saw some stupid move by some stupid cop I'd have no problem 'second-guessing' their actions and reporting them to their superiors.

Give me a 'red tart' all you want. I'm not here for some popularity contest. I am 12 because I saw a cop do some stupid move? Or I am 12 because I would happily go over and sign a formal complaint against that peace officer for doing that stupid move? I think my mommy would be really proud of me for seperating a boneheaded cop from his badge.
