    What would you do????

I just applied to a police force in Northern Ontario, I really hope to get an interview soon, as the process will only take 3 weeks in total as Police College starts in january. They are hiring 7 officers and have 50 or so applicants. This is for a native reserve. I belive my education will be a benefit, but I do not, count my chickens before they hatch. anyways, most of these reserves, you are the only officer in the community, Here is a question I was pondering, What happens if you are all alone and have to go to break up a fight or something, then some guy starts on you, then say all his buddies start on you , then soon after you are on the ground with 5 guys beating the crap out of you, what would you do if you could not, de escalate the problem through verbal communication???

At this point in time I am in fear for my life and would probably start shooting people before they get my gun and shoot me.

    Being Attacked

Esclate force, create distance, attempt to call for backup ....

evaluate the situtation, esclate force if needed, create distance.

Start with the tools you have, PDA (personal defense aersol)
baton, attempt to control the situtation ...........

Alot of variables, but your training will help your Survive.

On of the most important things you will learn is your primary job is to go home every night.

When you are alone you will not go in to situations such as that. It serves no purpose.

One way to break up a fight when no back up is available is to get within a few blocks and let the siren wail. Don't get in a hurry to get there either. WHen you arrive usually the fight is long gone.

I was behind a car once that had just been reported stolen within the last few minutes. There were about 6 males in the car and it was travelling over a causeway. A causeway has water on both sides and there is no where to go. I was waiting on back up before lighting up the car. The car suddenly pulled to the right and stopped, quit quickly.

It just didn't feel right, so I drove on by. By that time we had units at both ends of the Causeway, and jumped them when they tried to leave.

BTW...several guns were in the car.

They are right....If you are being pummled by 6 guys, you have already put yourself in a situation you shouldn't have. If you're by yourself, don't try and break up a large fight. It is with my experience that I have noticed when 2 people are fighting, and you try and break it up, they get pissed and turn on you, as well as everyone who wants to watch the fight.

here's a question for ya, why would you want to work ALONE on an indian reserve? My advice is do some research. I know the desire to become a police officer is overwhelming, but I'm sure this post is not your first choice. Maybe hold out for a more preferable PD. Ask any cop for stories about reserves, and you'll get an ear full.

Not tryin' to be a jerk, just tryin to bring to light the sad truth.
