if you're caught for video voyeurism in public, what is the punishment? Further if you're caught but the officer lets you go with a stern warning, is that the end of it or can it come back to haunt you later?

Depends, if you were let go without a summons or citation, the jurisdiction can cite you up to a year for the crime " Indecent Exposure" a misdemeanor.
On a funnier note, the police are playing the tape at each role call for laughs ......... They may even submit the tape to "Funniest Home Videos" for the $10,000.00 prize of the funniest home video
Or funnier still, the tape can make its way to the Intenet for millions to see.

No citation or summons, although I was told a complaint was filed. Does that mean this over? @ this point if the worst thing is ridicule and internet exposure, that'll do, in lieu of anything worse. Are cops really this lighthearted? If so it's good to know. They don't seem human sometimes. Thank you so much for your reply.
Cops see stuff on a daily basis that you wish you could never see in your entire life. When something like this comes along its fun to laugh it.

Believe me, you have to have a warped sense of humor in this line of work. You are exposed to such horrible things that you have to have some way to laugh.
To officer Bigelow, and Stumpilicious? Thank you for your replies, going back to the law abiding citizen w/no record that I've always been. I'll leave juvenile stupidity to the other guy from now on.

Bigelow,
I own several dictionarys:rolleyes:
I was looking for a Legal definition. The original poster wrote the question as if there was a specific law regarding this activity.
I was referring to what has been dubbed "upskirting" or "downblousing". It is my understanding that the current california law on this is 30 days and a $500 fine max. The penalty becomes stiffer after Jan. 1, where the penalty will then be 6 months and a $1,000 max fine. It's a 3rd degree mis. It's only illegal in 2 states though. Ohio, and CA. The supreme court ruling is that if the footage is gathered in a public setting, such as a mall that it doesn't fall under the same jurisdiction as say peeping through someone's window, and that in fact although it's reprehensible behavior it is NOT a crime. I hope this helps clear that up.
I see one major prob with this, "I swear she looked eighteen officer....." Be careful not to put yourself in such situations:p
It's not peer pressure......it's just your turn.
Wasn't questioning your defenition finding abilities ;) I was actully curious as to the legal aspect of it as well. I have yet to deal with something of the sort.
