deputies and pds into jail?

so theres all sorts of drama going on at my jail right now. we had this HUGE guy recently come into our jail. he was pushing 7 feet tall, and over 300 pounds of pure muscle. we knew the moment he came in that he was a little off. he just had that weird look and ora about him, that creep serial killer type, you know?

so our jail is completley c/o run, no deputies, been that way forever/ however, we have no CERT team, lack of funding or what have you.

it took a lot of work to get this guy to comply through the booking process and getting him upstairs. now the superiours decided they wanted to chapter him. well he refused to leave the blocks on 1st shift, a predomently female run shift (i love my fellow female officers, but) they're not very good at fighting.

so instead of taking the chance of all of first shift being put out onto light duty and creating all sorts of crazy overtime, the Leit. and seargents decided to bring in our kenosha pd and county deputies armed with tazer guns to pull this guy out.

a lot of our male COs are really pissed about this, feeling that their toes have been stepped on and that they're being treated like children.

most of us females say pick your battles, this isnt worth complaining about-its done and over, and this guy was a BIG risk.


what are some of your guy's outside views? for you LEO's would you have felt like you were stepping on our toes by coming in and getting him feeling you should have left it to us, or you think everyone was better off with deputies and pds coming in?

i say, who cares about stepping on toes. If you can get more people, and if you feel that getting more people will make it safer without creating any problems, then by all means do it.

By "creating problems" I mean real problems, not just hurting someone's feelings. Problems such as leaving a department short handed during the process.

the simple answer is that if you dont have the resources to get a job done, get somone in their that does. we're all on the same team in the grand scheme of things.

they probably didnt let the co's assist because they have not been trained with the responding agency. if you call a swat team in, dont expect to send in one of your guys with them, they have not been trained (probably) and have not worked with said team and could place everyone involved in harms way.

That's the thing I never understood. Why do people get upset when another agency comes in and helps?

I was driving down a street when I saw a HUGE party. They all had a youthful appearance and were drinking. When I stop, mass chaos erupted. People started running, screaming, etc (why, I have no idea. It's not like I was gonig to arrest everyone). When i called it in on the radio, my nearest backup was about 7 or so minutes away. Next thing you know, one drunk kid decides that he is going to start trouble and throws a bottle at the cruiser.

About 30 seconds later, i see two cruisers flying toward me Code 3. When they get there, I notice that they are two officers from the next town over (the line wasn't very far away). They got there LONG before anyone from my agency got there. I was not upset at all, and when my backup showed up, they were not offended either.

To be honest, I thought it kicked *** that they cared enough to come out and help when they knew the situation. they were monitoring our frequency (we all usually scan nearby towns as well) and decided that they would at least try to help. Finally when everyone showed up, we controled the situation and started writing summonses and arresting people.

But to get back on topic.... people should not get mad because they weren't involved or because another agency did the work. They should be happy that the other agency decided to help (or agreed to help). They could have just as easily said "sorry, we are too busy" and left them there to fend for themselves.

well we're the same dept as the deputies, heh. its the sheriff that said this is how its gonna be.

everyones just pissed off because of our contract and gotta find anything to ***** about i guess.

Don't know both SO's I've worked for it didn't matter who came thru the door as back up as long as they came. The more the merrier.

Agreed. I care less who backs me up. SO, HP, PD or the Good Humor man if it gets my *** home in one piece. Sounds to me like the C/O's didn't have the tools to handle the situation i.e. Tasers and the Road Dawgs did.

Yah they didn't have the tools, but WHO'S fault is that. Its the Sheriff's. C/O's always get disrespected like that and it really gets on a C/O's nerves.

The truth of the matter is that there will be those that say that the "Jail Guards" couldn't handle it and "WE" had to go handle it for them.

Safety is first and foremost, but what ought to be done, is for the Sheriff to provide training and equpment to ensure that another agency should never again be called in to handle ONE prisoner.

Whoa man. I started out as a Custody Deputy and I'm not crackin on em. Yeah it's the sheriffs who is at fault for not approving the tools. But then again it's the sheriffs jail and you play by the big mans rules.
