Why is this in ask-a-cop? Needs to be moved to the general area.
Be advised, I'm mean nasty and tired. I eat concertina wire and piss napalm and I could put a round through a fleas *** at 300 yards. So why don't you hump somebody else's leg mutt-face before I push yours in.

Uh no. If someone is posting in here, they want a cop's advice, opinion etc about a firearm. I'm by far no expert on firearms and I'm sure a lot of other LEO's aren't as well. If we miss something just start a topic in the general area, provide your correct or updated info and put a link to the original question.

From Jynkxxie:
"Starting a new thread, is obviously the only way to continue discussion; however, it takes time to do so, and then time for those reading the thread to reference that AAC thread. Etc. Etc. AAC has its purpose, but the level of open "LE discussion" where people learn and expand here on this forum has suffered because of this."

If someone wants to post a gun question in AAC then so be it, they are intelligent enough (I'm hoping) to see there is also an area devoted to firearms.

Since the same people are going to respond to the question regardless of where it's posted, I don't see the point?
And I stand by what I say...this is "ASKa cop" forums. Not "make statement forums"Originally Posted by Norm357

First of all, the following is only my opinion.
In theory, I would agree with the concept of Ask-A-Cop, being a place where a question can be posed to ONLY LE. Perhaps this is because the poster believes that LE may know better or it may be a question that ONLY LE would have knowledge of, etc. I think it also serves another purpose. It helps those that are new to the site to get answeres that they more heavily rely on. The reason I say "those that are new to the site" is because with some time around here, one can usually differentiate between those that knwo their stuff and those that talk out of their a$$... whether they are LE or not.
The problem I see is that often posters don't consider their question before posting it in here. "Would it be a valuable discussion in which everyone could participate?" "Is it a question that I think ONLY LE would reasonably know?" In stead, many think that this is remotely related to LE (as is the entire site!), so I will post it in the Ask-A-Cop section.
Why is it that those questions to code be reserved for Ask-A-Cop? I can promise you that most CJ students know code better than me! I know how to practice it, and that is MUCH different. If you want case law cited, I will need to run to the library more than I would like to admit.![]()
IMO, Norm makes an even stronger argument to firearms. Why not use the firearms forum? Why would cops know firearms better than anyone else? Sure, I know my share and so do several other LE around here. However, I know many, MANY LE that do not know a thing about firearms outside what they were tought int he academy... and they have forgotten most of that! FWIW, I am saying this as a firearms instructor.
I guess, what I am saying, is that in theory I think the Ask-A-Cop is a great idea. However, in practice, some valuable discussion is lost Sure, you can post a thread in General Topics and supply links to the Ask-A-Cop section. I also think that this is a waste of bandwith. As a mod, I go around merging threads all the time. Why make uncessary threads that duplicate prior threads.
I don't see a real easy fix. The best solution I can see is for those that wish to post a thread in Ask-A-Cop, they try to consider if it could be an asset to RP to have it discussed more openly. I know that there are plenty of us to call BS when BS arises.
No more arguing. If you wnat to discuss it further, take it up in a thread in General Topics.
