    What Happens In Pre-Academy?

    Hello there!

I've been informed that I've been scheduled for a 21 February academy start, but I'll actually start a pre-academy two weeks prior to the academy. No specifics about what is involved in the pre-academy (it was a pretty quick conversation).

What's usually involved with the pre-academy? I know that it obviously depends on the department...but generally speaking, what can I expect?

    Thanks!

Never heard of a pre-academy. It might be more like an orientation.

Mike, at my acedemy they offered a pre-academy fitness program. It was somewhat of an orientation but the first day of the academy is the actual orientation. SO I dunno. Could be an orientation but damn if their orientation lasts 2 weeks then you may be in for it!

Our pre-academy includes a p.t. program, departmental orientation, and a taste of what the academy itself will be like. The recruits are dressed in their uniforms, learn drill, do quite a lot of push-ups and are subjected to the same treatment they will receive in the academy, as far as the yelling goes. The purpose of it is to make sure they are squared away for the actual academy, having all of their gear and such. It gives the recruit a better idea of what is in store for them. It is a good prep.

This actually makes sense I guess, because that's when my salary will start. If this be the case, looks I'm going to working hard for my paycheck before the academy even starts. :D

If it like our own, yes it is hard work. The hardest part is that you have a few recruits and several officers. A lot of one on one attention. Get the most from it that you can though, it will help your success in the academy.
    Good Luck to you!

No problem at all, I think this pretty much answers my question. I searched for any previous posts about a pre-academy and didn't find much. Although, Darin mentioned something about it but it looked like a physical conditioning thing (as he indicated above). I appreciate it. :D

We had a week of pre-academy. I think ours, due to the size of the agency (being nationwaide), was driven by other factors. First and foremost, they wanted accountability of a person before they shipped out to training. Then there is a ton of administrative matters to take care of. There is little more to it than that for us... a bunch of BS, really.
