Hi, I'm 15 years old an I genuinely want to become a police officer in new york city. I know I have another 7 years before this will become a factor in my life but I figure it can't hurt to start early. Browsing through the NYPD webpage I saw that you had to be 17 1/2 to take the exam and 21 to be hired. Are there any benifits to taking the test early is I prep for it? Also, in reading another thread I heard that most people were DQ'd during the psy exame because they lacked "maturity" Do they generally write off most people who try and join at 21 as lacking maturity or is it common for a young person to get hired?

I'd say it really depends on the individual themselves.
Be advised, I'm mean nasty and tired. I eat concertina wire and piss napalm and I could put a round through a fleas *** at 300 yards. So why don't you hump somebody else's leg mutt-face before I push yours in.

I got hired two weeks after my 21st birthday. I was going to be sworn in on my birthday, but the Sheriff was on vacation. :(
How come your house has wheels and your car doesn't?

I started police work at 22. I wouldn't worry about the test yet. Study spanish, that will help you the most. There will be plenty of time to take the test right before you are old enough to be hired.
