    Police and Angency Apparel

    Hello:

I want to know if it is legal to wear police and/or agency apparel even if you are not and officer or agent. There are many big stores that sell all type of apparel. They even offer kids sizes. Is this OK. Hey check out the website and tell me if it is ok to purchase these apparel and where it even if I am not an officer of agent. I was thinking of buying the Police shirts. You know, not to impersonate a cop or agent or anything, but just to wear it.

    Thanks.

Why would you want to wear a police uniform if you aren't a LEO, I cannot think of any other reason than you want to impersonate one.

I know what you''re thinking but that is not what I had in mind. I will be a cop one day and later and FBI Agent. I thought that just by wearing the apparel will take me closer to my goal. I remember a quote, "there were two guys, the same age, the same grades, etc, who were ready to go to college, both wanted to go to Yale, one guy posted a picture of Yale on his wall and the other did not, the guy with the picture of Yale on his wall is more likely to get in than the guy that did not". The point of that quote was that, achieving goals is also psychological (positive thinking) and believing that you have already acomplished your goal. Thats is what I meant by me wanting to wear Police Apparel. Obviously I don't want to impersonate a cop that a felony. Its just a display of interest and determination.

Even when you are a cop advertising it is not a really a good thing. Yes i have t-****s and hats that I have collected over the years, but they are only worn around the house and yard.
How come your house has wheels and your car doesn't?

No it won't, it's a bad idea and also a very sad one as well

If you want to display your determination to be an LEO, volunteer at police run fund raisers. Do charity work and such like activities.

If you show you are genuinely trying to do something for your community, that will go better than wearing a screen printed police Tee shirt.

You run the risk of being looked upon as a 'sad' wannabee.

Everybody, well the majority, who is LEO was a wannabee once, it's just there are different levels.

Level 1 is "I wannabee a cop" and they go out and do the above, and more, to ensure they have the best chance of being appointed.

Level 2, "I wannabee a cop". That's it, they think the job is going to come to them 'cos they're soooo great!

Level 3, "I wannabee a cop, so I'll hang around in known cop bars to the point of being annoying. Dress like "what I think and off duty cop dresses like", and god forbid carry an airsoft Glock in the latest Level III retention holster just out of sight, but "I know it's there"

I think you may have noticed that L3 is the sad group. Do this and the recruiters/BI's will spot that and bin you.

Cops talk to cops and if you go the level 2 or 3 route I doubt very much you will get hired.
I KNOW you wouldn't get a job over here because, (geez I HATE to say this :D) we're so far behind the states when it comes to law enforcement and recruiting/weeding.

This is not a personal attack on you, just some advice from a police officer who's seen his fair share of wannabees.

    Good luck in your applications.

    Jim

Whenever I see someone wearing a hat or shirt that says "Police", "FBI", "DEA" "CIA", whatever, I know one thing for sure, he isn't.

I have more hats and shirts with police stuff on them sitting in my closet than I know what to do with, as I am sure most LEO's do, from constantly being issued them, given them, or buying them from somone raising money for somebody. The last thing I want to do when off duty is get identified as to where I work. A non-LEO ought to be even more worried about this kind of mistaken identity.

And, it's kind of goofy, to tell you the truth. It's like the guys who wear military unit shirts who were never in the military or that unit. It's not illegal, but it will make people who were in those units kind of look at you sideways after they go up and ask you about it, and find out you never really worked there or were in.

Not a good idea. When you are wearing a shirt like that, you become a target. And a target without a gun at that.

So hang a picture of the uniform of your choice on your wall.
