    Psychological Exam any advice?

    Hey,
My name is Chris.I have been going through the hiring process with my local PD since June.So far I have made it through the written test, physical ability agility test, oral interview, and the polygraph. All I have left is the Psychological exam.I have been told that if I pass this then I am hired.I have not been nervous till now.Its just that all I have heard is horror stories about this exam.I want this job more than I have ever wanted anything.I just dont want this one test to get in the way.Any advice would be helpful.
    Thanks
    Chris

Don't show up in your pajamas drinking a beer, don't tell them you like to bite the heads off of small animals, and don't tell them you want to be a cop so you can shoot people and drive fast.

Other than that, every psych test varies from department to department. There is really nothing you can study for or prepare for as you could be doing it wrong. Best advice is to answer all questions honestly, relax and hope for the best.

I have only heard of 1 person that failed this test. Unless your nuts, you shouldn't have a problem.

It depends on the dept entirely..... It's not just to find out if you're nuts, but to see if you fit the profile of what they're looking for in a police officer. We flunk quite a few that are later hired by other depts. It's not a reflection on them, just they aren't what the chief is looking for. There is no way to give you advice, just be honest and consistant in your answers. If you try to play with the test, you're liable to come up deceptive and that's not good....
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

Never say that an ink blot resembles a blood splatter pattern from a homocide. For some reason they don't like that answer.

I was told by the shrink who did my test that the main reason he DQ'd people was because they "lacked maturity and life experience" - seems most of the psycho-type personalities are identified and DQ'd during the interview process or background investigation. I wouldn't worry. Just be yourself and don't over-analyze each question, be honest in your answers and RELAX. Good luck!!!

In all seriousness, the don't over analyze is key. It is a very long test. Just relax.

The best advice is to just be yourself. If you pretend to be someone that you are not just so you impress the examiner, then you are only hurting yourself in the end.

Don't answer how you think they want to hear, just answer them honestly. Like RetDetSgt said, it will depend on the department. Some places use those tests to find a certain personality that they want their officers to have, others give it just to make sure you're not nuts. Good luck.
