    Highway Patrol: TN vs. NC?

Right now I am a college student, preparing for the USAF Security Forces. After the military and a degree I am considering seeking a job in highway patrol if not a local P.D. I am from Tennessee (Chattanooga Area), and first considered a department here, because there is no place like home. However, while visiting family in North Carolina recently it appeared that the Highway Patrols there really enjoy their job, that was what I decided from the number of blue lights on the I-40 shoulder. Any recommendations for either state, or reasons to avoid, quality of departments, and who really has more fun?

    Thanks

The THP is pretty squared away. I know several people with them. My brother just tried to get on, but they had 700 applicants with 70 positions. He was way up on the list too. It is a VERY political department. You only have to have a GED. The position and reputation is good, the pay sucks in my opinion for what they do. I don't know much about North Carolina, but THP will be starting a class of 60-70 troopers in January so it may be awhile before they hire again. ;)
