under age drinking

well im 16 and have got to plenty a partys and gotten drunk but never got behind the wheel after having even one. :cool:


im wondering (this is for me and my friends too) say if im at a party or something and ive had something to drink what can a cop do? since im under age and all and intoxicated? but not driving just hanging out


same with cigarettes for my friend that smokes under age.

ive heard cops can tell you only to put it out but cant write you a citation

is this true?

Having consumed alcoholic beverages under the age of 21 is a crime. I don't have to see you drink it and the consumption need not to have occurred in my jurisdiction. If i can convince the judge that you had consumed alcoholic beverages and were in anyway under the influence, you get a cite for Underage Drinking. inmy state up to a $500 fine and at least 90 days loss of drivers license.

Cigs vary by state. In my state it is illegal for you to buy them under 18. The actual possession is a different issue. I say that if it is illegal to buy them and it is illegal for someone to give them to you, than you illegally obtained them. I don't arrest kids for cigs, I just crush the pack and hand them back.

jeeze this saturday im going to my friends to stay the night with hella people and thier will be alcohol available but now im having second thoughts about having any

but i dunno i probally will just because its way out in the country theres on one out there and well be in his orchards way out in the back :confused:

ANY criminal arrest ( and Underage drinking is a criminal offense) is NOT good to have on your resume' no matter what job you apply for. Is getting drunk worth possibly ruining your future hopes of getting into Law Enforcement or some other good job ?

NO. Do most teens think about this or care ? NO.

Do many people come to this site who want to be cops but were arrested for DUI, drugs etc ?? ALL of the time.

Is becoming a cop competitive ? Absolutely. Will having an arrest in your background be considered at the time of application/hiring ? YES.

What you do NOW could affect you for the rest of your life, DON'T blow it on some stupid party.

Ultimately , the decision is yours. My LE brothers and sisters are always on duty and always out looking. Is the gamble worth it ?

I can cite you for being in posession of an alcoholic beverage, I can detain you, seek a complaint against you for being drunk in public or if I can get a hold of your parents, book you into kiddie jail. In posession of cigarettes is a B&P infraction and you can be cited....

Nice attitude. That will help with you wanting to be a cop. You know something is illegal and "Eh, what the hell, I'll do it anyways because we'll be far enough away that nobody will find out". Choose a different career or wise up a little.

I wouldn't worry about the arrest, just the attitude. Ca. is cracking down on underage drinking, a violation will cost your license for quite a while, and yes the cigarettes are also illegal, will buy you a cite and a call to mommy and daddy. Stop worrying about being caught and start to try to focuss on doing what is right!

You also would not put yourself in a position where a crime is occurring.

Being underaged and being in an area where underage consumption is taking place can afford you a citation ref: constructive possession. It has to do with you being there and having the power to seperate yourself from a crime.

We can write cites for underage possession of cigs and as well as for alcohol. You are going to court. In my state if you are under 21 a DUI is .02 (not the .08 for legal drinkers.)
