You guys are right about tailgaters. But I was in an accident early this year because of a tailgater. He rammed the back of my car and made me hit the person in front of me.

Now I try to avoid those people as much as possible. What happened to the 4 second rule (maybe 3 in your state)?

    I think it's 4 seconds.

Anyway, there's a specified distance between any two cars. It's not the law...but a good recommendation.

I thought it was two seconds.....
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

I have always used about 1 car length for every 10mph you are traveling.

Hmmm in CA. it is the 3 second rule...which roughly translates into the 1 car length per every 10 mph....For ticketing purposes I can tell you the following statement " Your honor I could not see anything but his head in the rearview mirror " works just fine

    Hmmm...

I've heard of the "five second rule"...but that was how long food would still be edible after dropping it on the ground... is any of this related to that??

    ;)

I must seek a lawyer for that answer.

In Missouri it might be the five second rule. In Ca. we give food a whole 8 seconds to deem it inedible Maybe we are just hungrier folks.

IN my state , there is no DA at summary traffic court. You will see me at the table for the Commonwealth , the judge up front and you and anyone you care to bring. I typically don't adjust tickets because I usually have no reason to do so. If your car isn't safe, than it shouldn't be on the road. I probably would have had your car towed and made you fix it before driving it again.

PS , I have dealt with such "problems" before and they almost always involve young drivers, alleged car problems and either a burnout or speed.
