    Your Reccomendations?

    Well, im sure you all know me as the question master by now. I've asked like a hundred billion quesitons but its for reason. I want to be a police officer when I get out of school. Not only do I want to be a police officer but I want to ability to get promotions to lietenant captain etc... if I want to. I know I need a bachelors degree so help me out. Please help me out this is driving me crazy and my counselor does'nt know what shes doing shes new.
    Im currently 16 and a junior in high school. Im taking typing class which I know is something good to learn for getting into law enforcement. But, what kind of other classes should I take? I mean name anything my school is top 3 in Indiana we have everything. Im currently getting like a 3.2 grade average. And when I get to college what kind of college should I go to what should I get my degree in? Can I get my degree in anything?

    can i get my degree in anything I want? What would make you say when you look at someone's resume that you want this person? I appreciate the answers.

    Few agencies really care what your degree is in. I'd take something that you can fall back on if being a cop doesn't work out for whatever reason. And by the way, once you make Lt., for all intents and purposes you're no longer a cop but an administrator.

    You will probably need a masters to make command level in most larger depts. I'd get one after you become a cop and get it in Public Administration. That will be of some practical value in the command ranks.

    Yes. Having any degree will help you, and I have never heard of a department having a preference for one degree over another.

    As for other things you can do to help your career...You can stay out of trouble, get your degree, maybe do some volunteer work. (Military experience probably wouldn't hurt either; maybe the reserves while you're in college). Learn a second language that's commonly spoken in the area you want to work. Find an explorer post in a nearby department and join.

    These are some of the things that will help you remain competitive in a future process.
