Criminals with the same name? Help!

Hi y'all. I'm new here so if this is a redundant post, I do apologize but I joined this forum just so someone might be able to shed light on this little problem I have.
Today, out of boredom, I did a Google search on my name and up popped up a few troubling pages. Someone with the exact same name as me, same age, same state (CA, in a town about 5 hours away), and same physical description as me has a running list of nasty fraud and theft charges. All the similarities between myself and this person seriously freaked me out! Is this something I should be worried about when it comes to background checks/identity theft? I eventually want to work in law enforcement and seeing the picture of this criminal and how she even looks like me seriously has me worried. If anyone has any thoughts, please let me know.
    Thanks.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I've stopped several people with the same names and ages of people with warrants, suspended licenses, etc. They very rarely have the same date of birth, and you have to match the social security numbers as well. I know there's someone else in my state with my same name, and it's a pretty rare name.

I doubt this person knows or would think to look to see if you existed. Usually the identity thefts come from stolen social security numbers, financial cards, or confidential applications, etc.

I would just keep an eye on my credit, bank statements, and such to make sure everything is ok. Everyone should do that anyway regardless. Usually people with your problem do tell me about it when I stop them and are pretty worried as well. Make sure you carry your ID with you just in case, but it's probably nothing to stress over.

You might also take a look at this webpage: http://www.consumer.gov/idtheft/

The site is sponsored by the Federal Trade Commission and has some excellent downloadable information about how to check to see if you are the victim of identity theft.

As far as the identity theft goes, what the others said is absolutely correct...as far as a background check goes, just be up front with the investigator and let them check it out....if the other person has been arrested then their fingerprints will be on file....if they haven't, then some basic investigating would rule you out....so as they said don't sweat it,,,,just be honest with whomever you apply with.
