Alright i've been wondering something. I'm going to a community college and taking criminal justice. I was going to go through thier academy, but I heard that only small departments will hire you if you go through theirs. Now I literally live 2 minetes from OPOTA ( Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy.) I'm pretty sure you need to be sponcered to go through there. How do I do that? Do I just go get an application from the SO, or what? I'm lost! :confused:

Contact the Chief Deputy of the Department and he/she can give you some insight or you can contact the school and see what you need. All Academies are different but still have to meet the same standards as far as the certification is concerned. If you are certified in any Academy as a LEO then that shouldn't raise any concern on if you meet the qualifications or not. You will just have to pass any agility test the Department has. Some training programs don't have a lot of defensive tactics and physical training. In my opinion, that doesn't prepare you for the agility test. Just make sure you can do the physical part and you will be ok. That doesn't mean if you think you can run three miles in a certain amount of minutes either. MAKE DAMN SURE YOU CAN! Be just as physically in shape as you are mentally in the Academy.
