I was wondering if trying pot 1 time about 8 years ago will lean towards me not getting hired. I am getting ready to get out of the marines and attend the academy and i dont want to waste my time. Also if anyone has a past post or has a good list on what can hurt you in a background check. I have never had a ticket and have very good credit i have no clue of what else to look into. Thanks for any help thats provided

My guess would be if everything else is pretty clean, one incident 8 years ago will not hinder your getting hired. Just be truthful.

One time 8 years ago will most likley not hurt your chances at all. Every department has its own rules on drug use, but I have never come a crossed one that was that strick.

We require drug free for 5 years on MJ. SO with that hurdle already past it is almost like it didn't happen at BUT don't deny you did it. WIth your military and hopefully your military bearing and experience, you will be a good candidiate.

So long as you are honest and upfront about it, then in California, most departments are accepting of that,especially if you have established yourself in a responsible military carear....but never ever lie about it...

You'll be fine. There may be a couple departments that will DQ for any drug use, but those are few and far between. A lot want 3-5 years between last use and applying, which you've already passed. Don't sweat it
