Exhaust Pipe sound rules.
I have a question for all of you.
What are the rules to define how loud pipes are handled? I own a 78 Chevy 4X4 that I must drive across three counties and one state line to enter in an off-road competition. My mom says that the truck is far too loud, but she is sensitive to loud noises.
As far as pipes go, the truck has the required piping and sound muffling parts all the way until the end of the glasspack muffler, then the pipe was cut off flush with the end of the muffler.
I wouldn't say the truck is too loud, but it would be plenty loud enough to wake up a person sleeping inside a house. It is almost too loud to talk over if you are standing beside the truck.
I would love to avoid having to trailer this truck, because it is so heavy and tall. It is tagged in my name, and is insured also.
What are my chances of getting pulled over and ticketed because of loud pipes? I don't need a ticket right now. Could I make the trip if I keep my foot out of the gas inside city limits?
I am not vulgar, I just speak my mind. My mind on the other hand, is in the running for most vulgar.
