Gun waved at me.. what should I have done?

Here is the scenario. There is this one-way two-way section of road under a train over pass. The traffic direction is controlled by lights, as there is only enough room for one vehicle under the bridge. The road curves, so you can not see on comming traffic. My light turned green and I proceeded.. I was almost into the lane when I see another car comming at me (obviously ran the light on the other side). I hit the horn and swerve as far to the right as I can in the little space infront of the lane. She pases and I proceed to my distination (a local park). I get out of my truck and start to walk on a pedestrian walk way. Not two minutes after I get out of my truck and the car that I honked at barells down the walkway and nearly runs me over. She (the driver) wants to know why I honked at her. I tell her why and she argues at with me. I say a few choice insults and tell her to get off teh path. She eventually drives away. When she gets about 25 feet away she waves a gun at me out her window. I did insult her.. call her crazy, etc before she drove away. At no time did I threaten her or come closer than within 7 feet of her vehicle. At no time did she get out of her vehicle. It has been 3 days and I am still a bit pissed about having a gun waved at me for honking my horn. BTW, this happened in Radford, Va.

What should I have done? I know I should have gotten her license plate number, but I was a bit startled and didn't think of this at the moment. Supose I happen to see her again an than get her plate (I know not to approach her or start anything). BTW, my girlfriend was with me and witnessed teh whole exchange. I had thought of getting in my truck and taking off after her to get her license number, but that would have required excessive speed and deemed this not an option.

    Thanx,
    Chris

Since you didn't get a plate number, you should have still called the police and gave them a description of the car and the driver.

Well, you did fine not confronting her but you should turned and run for cover. The gal may not have meant to shoot you, just scare you, but that does not mean she practices good trigger safety and could have accidentally shot you. Then at the earliest opportunity call the police and report a flourishing. You can at least give a good description of the person/vehicle if not the license plate.

I, and I think the other coppers on here, pay a bit more attention to a call with a person flourishing a gun and definitely put more effort into finding that person.

I don't think you will get too far in making a report now, because of the delay. The information is cold and probably not enough to get alot of action. Of course, you could try and see if you local department will make an incident to at least put an officer safety alert out.

Be careful and if you ever come across this gal again, you can try to get the license plate and then make a report. You will have to do a bit of explaining to the department and positively ID the gal, give a statement, etc. but I would not try to ditch your report if you were earnest about it.

    Good luck and be safe.

In VA that is brandishing but without a license plate it is going to be nearly impossible to track her down.

You should have called the police and made a report. At least they would have the description (who knows sometimes we get lucky and find the car and the gun.) Also with a report you have something documented in case you see her in a week and get the tag.

At this point without a report being made then I would just chalk it up to life experience. If there is a next time remember to try and get the tag and at least make the report to the police.

If you see her next week regardless of whether you get a tag just stay away from her. If she confronts you again get clear of the area and get a tag and make a report. If she shows you the gun again you better beat feet and get away before you get ventilated. THEN you make a report right away. If she is that willing to wave the thing around she's done it before and will do it again, maybe the police are already looking for her from other incidents.

The beatings will continue until morale improves.

Be advised, I'm mean nasty and tired. I eat concertina wire and piss napalm and I could put a round through a fleas *** at 300 yards. So why don't you hump somebody else's leg mutt-face before I push yours in.

    Thanx,

Do you have a cell phone? I woulda called that one in right away and follow at a safe enough distance away, just barely in sight still until cars stopped her. That would be one less CCW carrier on the street.
