nylon duty gear for the academy

Is it worth buying your nylon gear for the academy? We have the option, because the academy will loan you thiers for training. Do you ever use it again when you are hired somewhere? I realise that you will be in leather gear most of the time, but are there instances where nylon can be used? I hate to purchase $400 worth of equipment just to use in the academy and never again. Thanks in advance.

First off, if you spend $400, you've spent too much.

But, mine has come in very handy for high risk call outs. The leather was issued, but I refuse to wear it for other than uniformed duty. My Dept, as of yet, does not supply nylon.

One can only be so Open Minded before all that mind **** spills out, stains and ruins everything.

The $400 is including the stinger flashlight and the cuffs, which are also optional.

We are issued leather, but most officers buy nylon instead as it is optional. I've gone in between and buy the accumold elite stuff which is still basketweave, but not leather. If you are wearing it just for the academy, I wouldn't buy it. If there is a chance to use it after the academy, then go for it. Buying coptoys is fun.

I only use my nylon rig for bike patrol and training.

Use the academies nylon. Why pay for something you don't have to?

Exactly. If something happens in the academy and you don't make it, you dished out $400 that you didn't need to.
Be advised, I'm mean nasty and tired. I eat concertina wire and piss napalm and I could put a round through a fleas *** at 300 yards. So why don't you hump somebody else's leg mutt-face before I push yours in.

If you don't ever think you will be able to wear it again, I wouldn't buy it. If your department allows it, then kudos.

I have nylon and leather gear. The only folks that wear nylon in my PD is bikes (which I'm a part of) and K9. Unfortunately our bike unit isn't full time so I have to switch out between nylon and leather. Much rather have the nylon because of light weight. Leather is more professional looking, but it would look silly with a bike uniform. ;)
