    Starter Firearm

I'm currently enrolled at Schoolcraft College in Michigan in the criminal justice program. I'm half way done with my first semester and am loving every min. about becomming a police officer. However, one flaw that I have is that I have never shot a gun before and wish to do so, that I'm not going blind before my academy. I was just wondering if there is a good "starter" gun that I should try first?

IMO, don't do anything. You don't need to know about about shooting a gun prior to them teaching you. You are a clean slate with no bad habits to undo. I went into the military with no experience in weapons whatsoever and became very proficient because I paid attention to my instructors. Listen to what the instructors tell you instead of the bad advice you may get from the no-it-alls around you in the academy class.

    Gotta agree, sound advice there.
Be advised, I'm mean nasty and tired. I eat concertina wire and piss napalm and I could put a round through a fleas *** at 300 yards. So why don't you hump somebody else's leg mutt-face before I push yours in.

I agree that you shouldn't do anything. Never firing a gun isn't a flaw at all. Now they don't have break your bad habbits before teaching you properly.

We had several in our academy that had never fired a handgun or a shotgun. Hell, I hasn't shot a handgun in several years when I went into the academy. I did what the instructors taught me and shot almost 100% across the board. You can wait. ;)

Ditto. The academy will assume nobody knows anything and start with the basics.

It is EASIER to train you then to UNTRAIN you. Unless you are going to get professional gun instruction ( the kind you pay for) don't let your brother's best friend with a .44 mag and a collection of DIrty HArry movies be your instructor.
