Qualifying With Your Firearm

Pistol....1x a year...all day affair...including scenarios, straight target, judgement shotos and various forms of cover.

At my fist department we did it quarterly, but could go any day on your own time. It was great! :cool:

At my second department we went twice a year and were not allowed to shoot department weapons or at the department range at any other time. :(

Quals twice a year is the mandatory minimum for all weapons. If you do not qualify with the weapon, you do not carry it. In most instances, remediations are done until you qualify... usually not a big deal, most often requireing just one reshoot.

Our SRT quals 4x a year. SOG quals at least twice a year (in addition to normal district quals).

The same firearms policies are adhered to for the less lethals and other specialty weapons that SOG and SRT uses.

Precision Marksman (for SOG) must do monthly cold bores as aminimum, though we do other training/courses of fire above and byond that. We usually shoot our full quals a couple times a year as a group, as well..

We are a minimum of 2x per year for everything... 9mm, shotgun and M16.
Usually I get out quarterly, a couple times during the past summer I was out every month. (Not for remedial training)

Unfortunately, we aren't required a night shoot right now.
