Have you all always wanted to be a Police Officer? Does it run in your blood, or did you one day wake up decide you needed a career change?

No. I just needed a job and all they were hiring were cops and firemen. I hate ladders.
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

Opps...Should of been a question mark in that Heading and not that read thing.
Ever since I watched One Adam 12.( when it was first on)
Creeper Cop
Since I was a teenager. Didn't get serious about it until I was older than 18 though.
Be advised, I'm mean nasty and tired. I eat concertina wire and piss napalm and I could put a round through a fleas *** at 300 yards. So why don't you hump somebody else's leg mutt-face before I push yours in.
The last thing I wanted to do was be a cop. When I was 10 or so living on the south side of Chicago, I witnessed several cops beat a man bloody until he wasn't moving anymore. I don't know what he did or if he lived or died but I was scared then later defiant of cops until I was about 17. I met this juvenile officer that was real cool and use to come out of his car a lot and knew people by their first name. He always stopped to talk to the kids that didn't run when he showed up. I don't know where he is now or if he's still alive but he made cops human to me.

I considerd other jobs, but LE was the most interesting. When I was 17, I became an Explorer and was hooked.
How come your house has wheels and your car doesn't?
I sort of fell into it. That doesn't mean I was just handed the keys and told to have fun. I still had to work very hard to get here. I always wanted to be a police officer, but thought it would always be out of my reach. I was looking at firefighter, since I had some experiance there. Then by sheer luck, I was offered the chance to attend the academy, paid for by the state. So I worked my tail off to come up with the money for equipment (State only paid for the class, and room), and get accepted into the academy. Once I was done, it was my responsability to find a job. I started out as a reserve city officer, then worked in the jail for 6 years, three of those as a Corrections Sgt., and finally made it to Deputy Patrol. Now tomorrow I test for Patrol Sgt.![]()

Didn't cross my mind until a friend of my parents who was in the job said "Why don't you become a police officer."
I thought what a jolly good idea, the rest is history.
A snout has told me he's got a set of nostrils, so go and get a W so we can spin his drum to see if he's got any monkey gear - The Sweeney.
Gee what really cool stories! Thanx for sharing!
If could only start over, I would be following foot steps. Too old now to run and jump.
I remember wanting to be one when I was about 10 or so.
My mother asked me what I wanted to do and when I told her a Policemen, she said, "No, you'll get shot in the back"
It never crossed my mind again until I had my first child. I realized all of the dopers and losers I was working with and around at the Steel Co. I realized I needed a career, and remembered my dreams from childhood.
The rest, as they say, is history.

One can only be so Open Minded before all that mind **** spills out, stains and ruins everything.
I always ran around as a kid playing cops & robbers, but never seriously thought about policework, until my brother-in-law got on with the VSP. His beat was Spotsylvania/Fredericksburg, and one night he invited me on a ridealong. That evening there was a really bad wreck on I-95 south that we responded to, and they ended up shutting the whole highway down. It pretty much cemented the deal when the Medflight helicopter landed in the middle of the highway right in front of his car.
