    Fraud

Do you think fraud is rampant like how companies and LE agencies claim it to be? Or is it blown out of proportion?

How many claims of fraud and/or postal inspector get in a month? A year? How do they choose which cases to pursue? Of course they can't actively pursue every claim.

are you referring to identity theft, credit card fraud, check fraud. As TX said, your question is kinda vague.

Identity theft has been become pretty popular lately. At least in my dept., it's a hard to prosecute crime because of the way it's committed.

It is rampant, in fact it has become a cottage industry, in south Florida.

And, it is hard to get prosecuted and it is hard for the victim to straighten out. The credit reporting companies look at it as your problem, not theirs, when they list unpaid debts and bad credit in their databases that are the result of identity theft.

What's mail fraud? I've heard that term before but never knew what it was.

A new federal law passed in July of this year to combat identity theft and give harsher penalties to those that commit it.

It's just one of those crimes that the CJ system felt other things were more important. But I think once someone invades your privacy such as an indentity theft case does, you look at it as something a little more serious. ;)
