    Ethical Dilemma

This isn't really law enforcement related, but it's an ethical dilemma at my workplace, and I'm wondering what you guys would do?

I work at a party place for kids, where parents bring their kids in to use our facility, usually for birthdays. Think chuck.e.cheese's, et cetera. Anyways, sometimes parents will order food with their party, which we hold in the staff room until it's time to serve it to them.

Occasionally, I see employees helping themselves to the food. I.e. a piece of candy here and there from a goody bag, or some pepperonis off of a pizza. I brought this up at the last manager's meeting to both of the owners, and they said it was unacceptable. I had done my part by bringing it to their attention.

Anyways, today I saw 2 employees taking fruit from one of fruit trays some people had ordered for their party. It was in the staff room waiting to be served (I was busy making balloons or something). Anyways, they said "You're not going to say anything, right?" By the way, I am not in a position to discipline/reprimand anyone.

Should I bring this specific issue up again to the owners? I've already told them it's been going on, and it seems as if they haven't done anything about it. I really hate to act like a snitch, over something so little. But if they'll take little things like this, what WON'T they take? I'm sure no one will ever know about this, but it really bothers me. Am I just being too critical?

    Suggestions?

How about you just confront them directly....

something like "Hey jerkoff, why don't you buy your own food and quit stealing from little kids? "

    or....

"If i'd known you were this pathetic I would have packed some extra food for you so you wouldn't have to steal it."

Why do people think reporting illegal, immoral or wrong behavior is "snitching". Life is not high school. These people have no problem acting against the rules, but expect you to have some kind of loyalty to them. Are THEY giving you a paycheck?

To whom is your duty? Your employer and the customers or a few immature and irresponsible employees?

Report 'em. And when they ask you something like, "You're not going to say anything, right?" Say, "I dunno, are you going to keep doing it?"

whelp, after a day of wrestling with what to do, I decided to call the boss and let him know (again).

I was scared as hell, but he thanked me for having the "fortitude" to inform him, and he asked ME how I wanted him to resolve the issue. I told him a firm warning would satisfy me.

Now i feel a lot better

Yeah ok, but I still say he should do something about it now, even though he did

I bet they woudl sell you out in a NY minute.
Next time food comes in....make a general announcement...."If anyone touches it, I will tell management. We didn't pay for it and aren't being offered any so we don't steal."
Stealing starts small...soon they will hit the guests coat pockets and purses....if they already haven't.
-In God we trust. All others, put your hands on the car and don't move.
