:-) Okay, well..First, I am not sure why mentioning them here is of any help.
And really would not have a problem talking about my past mistakes in a private forum where the possibilties of criminals viewing would be a smaller percentage.
You wanted to know what you could be DQ'd for right????Originally Posted by Victorunit
Did you expect us to provide a big list of what you could possibly be DQ'd for??
If you want a real answer, then give us a real scenario.

The number one thing that elimates potential candidates is the poly. Not because the entire process is incredibly invasive but because so many folks think they can outsmart the process and the machine.
As has been mentioned, barring anything way out there or criminal, being honest is the only way to go. Each PD is different in what will fly and what won't as far as background, but are consistent about no felony convictions, no hard drug use, no dui's, no DV convictions, etc. Beyond that, the list is varied and long what will have you shown the door.
Be honest and let the chips fall where they may.
Never be afraid to make a difference

A scenario: Let's say if you use to be married to a mobster could you be DQ'd?
OR what if you almost beat a pervert to death could you be DQ'd?
Thank you DWF. I really like how you put that in writing. Let the chips fall where they may will be my thought through the process. Though I have to say I was waiting for judgement day at another time instead of next month.
Thank you all for advice and good night!
As a BI I find it very interesting that those are the scenarios you chose to present to us.Originally Posted by Victorunit

Would you give me a scenario of what a BI will ask me?
A BI? or the Polygraph Examiner?
A BI will ask you about every answer you put down on paper. They will ask about every questionable response from your references. They will ask what you aren't telling them. They will ask about the "youthfull indiscretions" you forgot to mention. They will ask you things just to see your reaction. And everything you say will be cross-checked and run down to see if it checks out.
A Polygaph Examiner has a set of questions that he/she will ask EVERY applicant. He/She will tell you the questions before you are hooked to the instrument. Your physiological reactions will be gauged using a series of control questions and the test will be conducted. A competant examiner will detect and DQ any applicant attempting to employ countermeasures. Our office uses a baseline of -7 for deception, YMMV.

Thank you for taking the time to explain the differences!
My concern about the poly was if they asked me a question that was off the wall, and when I answer truthfully is it going to give the thumbs down because it's raised my heart beat due to the only fact that it was an off the wall question.
Also...I'm assuming BI stands for background investigator?
I wouldn't have to worry about the BI because surely he has seen and heard it all and is a trained pro and would know a lier when he sees and hears one.
BTW..What does employ countermeasures mean?
You should be given all the questions to the poly prior to the actual test. You will go over each question with the examiner.
The BI isn't just there to find the liar, but find stuff that may or may not make you the best choice for the job.
If you are afraid what criminals may read here, you are in trouble. That is beyon paranoia. They have no way to prove exactly who you are anyways.
The things dishonest people try to do, to "beat" the polygraph. It doesn't work. (Modern instruments even have detection devices built in. Don't try it, unless you want to see your chances go up in smoke.)Originally Posted by Victorunit

Have no intentions of being dishonest. I can't be dishonest on this forum let alone in person. And if I'm not the right person for the job, then all is for the best.
In any case I seem to be the right person evey time someone needs me at the department to do voulnteer work. Just would be nice to get paid for something I enjoy doing.
