Happens in just about every city in America every day.

Better them than me. Most Police Officers don't even have time to write traffic tickets let alone parking tickets.

We have a whole bunch of them writing handicap spaces. A good thing in my opinion.

Don't get technical, I was talking about any type of citizen parking enforcement program.

I know a few stations are thinking of stopping the volunteers from doing any more citations. Seems the power of being a volunteer has gotten out of control for a few. I'm hoping that a slap on the hand or at-willing the person will be rulled over banning us giving citations.
Especially if the majority of officers feel we are helping lift the load.

I take it you are one of those volunteers? I have no problems at all with it. Parking violators piss me off, the more people that write them the better.

In regards to a few being power hungry....your department should deal with those individuals rather than getting rid of the program. Make a few examples by terminating them, that usually makes people straighten up for a while.

Citizens CAN write handicap tickets if the DA allows it, he doesn't allow it though.

We have them.... One of our guys who was paralyzed from being shot in the spine by a sniper does the handicap parking thing. It's a great program. It pisses me off to see ablebodied people park in those zones, but there are too many and to many others things for police to do other than patrol them.

Yep, I'm one of those volunteers. ;)

They have stopped us from giving tickets to people parking there cars for sale in private lots and also truck drivers who leave there trucks running for long periods of time in residential areas. So far the illegal handicap parking is still in effect as long as we take a digital pic of the handicap sign in front of the car illegally parked, but now some are having confrontations. Not a pretty thing when seniors get mad. I wish we could do more to lift the load!

Our Traffic Enforcment Officers at the airport are non-commissioned personnel. They write the same parking tickets we do. I have a lot of respect for them. Just because they're not comissioned, they take alot of verbal abuse from folks coming in and out of the airport. I'll back them up in a heartbeat. The drivers that give them hell, change their whole attitude when the blue uniforms show up. I'm glad they're out their. If I had their job (which PD used to do about 7 yrs ago), I'd be taking someone to jail on a daily basis. ;)

Are traffic agenst here are non-commissioned. They too write the same summonses we do. They usually use good judgement and take a lot of abuse. Not a job I could do. People crap all over them.
