How often do you arrest rich people?

Note: This is not meant to imply any sort of bias.

Overall, in your law enforcement careers, how often do you arrest rich people? (Define rich people as those who make over $100,000 a year).

What offenses do you commonly arrest rich people for? And are rich people more or less likely than an average person to commit transportation infractions on the road?

I don't care or ask how much people make when I collar them. I collar them becasue they broke the law. No blind eye due to $ or who they are.

I don't think income is listed on the Uniform Crime Reports otherwise I would look it up but here in a resort town, I would say at least 30% are in the over 100K income. They get arrested for DUI, DV, narcotics violations, and environmental mishaps. Then they pull that, "Do you know who I am" schmeel and I say, "Yes, Sir, I do know who you are because I have your driver's license....Do you know who I am? Mrs. Clint Eastwood and I am about to make your day".

I can tell you what happens after you arrest them. My group arrested Fabio Ochoa, one of the richest men in Colombia, in 2001. He paid his lawyer, Roy Black, 8 million dollars to defend him. And, still lost. :D

Shoot, in Miami, you are routinely arresting people for drugs whose cars are worth more than $100,000.

Usually traffic laws only. We've gotten a few on narcotics trafficking, but not many. Oddly enough, most of them have been lawyers.

Now and then a rich guy gets busted on a prostitution sting. They hardly constitute a crime wave.

If I had to guess.... estimation of 10% of the time. DWIs, Warrants, Domestics, Drugs..... everything a poor guy gets hooked for... there are just more poor people around.

You classify rich as making over $100k?

The he says "rich" people, or those who make over $100k are not average.

    How bizarre.

I arrested a guy who owned the city the other night. Apparently he pays my wages and is going to have the mayor fire me. I haven't gotten a call from the mayor yet, but I'm still waiting. Unfortunately he didn't appear to own the jail, because he didn't have the key to get out.

My results are going to be skewed because of my location and the fact I do a LOT of DWI work.

Rich people by your standard (100K) is 80% of the Austin population. This is a techie city. Dell computers and all that. I have 17 million dollar homes in my area. I know OFFICERS that make over 100K by riding the overtime hog. Heck, my sister owns a small computer consulting firm and is worth over 2 mill.

They get arrested for the same things everyone else does. MAYBE less property crimes. Certainly assault offenses/drugs and DWI are right up there.
