a police report question

I filed a police report and named a relative as a suspect in an Identity theft case. I gave the officer the suspect's full name, but I also gave out a possible new last name she may be using (she re-married and I know the last name of the person she married). However, since I filed the report, I've learned that she didn't change her last name (she isn't using her husband's last name that I gave to the officer)!

Is this going to matter at all if one of those last names isn't the one she is using? I hope not, it doesn't seem like it would. Thanks for everyone's help!

the continuing "saga" of blue - well - continues...

Just update the officer who took the complaint.

Be advised, I'm mean nasty and tired. I eat concertina wire and piss napalm and I could put a round through a fleas *** at 300 yards. So why don't you hump somebody else's leg mutt-face before I push yours in.

Would it be considered a "false police report" if I just left it as is ? I've listed three last names (maiden name, former when married (which she still has , as far as I know) and the her husband's - though she isn't using it - I would have to delete it totally from the report), all of them seem correct. The report has been amended once already and I've been lazy about going to get it (filed the report in August).

I would have tried both names anyway in the situation that you described.

I've thought of another possible problem. My identity was stolen, I have no doubt. However, even though I believe the relative is the one (about 90% sure) that fraudently got a credit card joint account without telling me - that's where the problem is - I have no real ground evidence that she was the one who did it and the only evidence that will prove anything is on paper somewhere.

I can imagine that if it wasn't her that did this, that authorities (and her) would be (to put it lightly) pretty "angry" at me for putting her on the report and asking me why I put her there in the first place.

She said she got the card (I didn't hear it from her, but from another relative), and there is evidence pointing to her in that the dates of the committed act match with a credit card that I agreed to share with her (a whole 'nother story), not to mention that she is the only one I can think of that would do something like this.

The more I think about it, the more I wish I had not put her name on there, just to be on the "safe side".

Regarding the post I made above, is it possible that there will be a problem if the DA found the person I put on the report innocent of charges of identity theft? If that person isn't guilty of the crime, I realize that the DA would search out someone else.

If you didn't intentionally give false info to the officer and the person is found not guilty in court you will be fine. You seem awfully concerned about this, do you have a guilty conscience or something?

I ask people ALL of the time " is there ANYONE you can think of who MIGHT have done this ??" . I can rule someone in or out but I can't do either if you remain silent.

Thanks.

I saw her driving in town a month ago - she waved to me. We haven't spoken in months, and to top it off - the suspect is my mom. My dad still keeps in contact with her, and a week ago, he told me that she wanted to know how I was doing.

People have told me that just because she's being nice to me doesn't mean that she should get off. I have evidence pointing to her, although not strong evidence. Whenever I think about talking to her or calling her up, the part about her using my name to get a credit card doesn't hurt as bad as knowing that I put one of my own parents on a police report.

From what you have said:

Your mother has set up a joint credit card in both your name and her name.
You have received a bill for the credit card use and you did not make the charges.

You are definitally right for filling a report with this information and I am pretty sure you've got the right suspect. If I got a credit card in the mail on a joint account I didn't know about I'd call the other party to see whats up. Your Mother didn't call you!!

I definitally see credit card fraud for falsly setting a up joint credit card account and making charges knowing she was not going to pay them and I'm sure there area few others that could be found.

Make sure you report this to all 4 of credit reporting agencies and check to make sure that your credit is ok. It can be a real nightmare cleaning up after a problem.

I had a card that kept getting false charges from over seas even after I had them close down one card and open a new account number for me. I got so fed up with them that I closed down the account. I had never had any problems previously and had the account for over 10 years.

I still keep a watch out and even regularly go though and close out accounts that I don't use or need to help protect against problems in the future.
