damn... 575 tickets one day! multiply that by the avg. price of each ticket at 100, thats $57500 they made on one day! w/ one speeding trap...no wonder.....dis...dis ...dis...

How is it a "trap" did they lure you in? Sugarland is a big town. I bet you that the budget of Sugarland receives less than 1/2 of 1% of its income from ticket revenues.

Besides, the majority of those will be dismissed by people taking Defensive Driving, deferred adjudication, etc.

How much do you think it costs to have those officers out there for the day? Salaries, benefits, gasoline, equipment, etc?

i think its more important to note that speed limits are set for the 1960 era! we travel much more now a days, we have better cars, better roads, better everything... and we can't drive faster? I mean... each driver knows their limit...except for stupid teenagers... but thats something else... and each person wants to perserve their life... and the standard or normal speed thats considered safe by most drivers is around 70-75 mph and in some cases 80 mph... around houston... in fact, driving at 70 mph was perfectly legal until they said that they to reduce smog... which by way doesn't and its factual by now cause it didn't do anything to houston's air...

but this is the main thing... low speed limits creates more revenue for the city...and thats the fact... speed doesn't kill... just go on to HWY 59 and you would see everyone driving at speeds greater than the posted....

as for mcsap... i would like to see 20 mph speed limit for everywhere you go so that you can understand the feeling... the feeling that you know for sure you can drive safely at 30,40, 50 mph.. but you can't break the law... but you have places to go and get to... try it and you would probably understand...

i don't know exactly how much sugar land makes of tickets...but i would say somewhere around the 10-15%... or less... sugar land is different since its a "rich" area... they don't need to do as much ciation to make ends meet... if they have a budget deflict... just up the poperty tax or up the adjuster's estimates...all have worked wonders in the past...

the story was from a florida county....read more here...

if this county was small... and a major highway runs through it ... then...logically it would make a larger percentage of its revenue...

apparently at most sugar land makes off traffic ciation would be less than 14%...

licenses and permits, fines and forfeitures, hotel occupancy tax, contributions, and developer fees = 14% = 95.1 million * .14 = 13,314,000 or 13 million...
if tickets of midemeanor c crimes is about 3% then....2,853,000 or about at 2.9 million...

You can play little professor all day long, throw out numbers, stats, theories, etc.

Usually the same people that ***** about cops speeding are the same people who ***** when you have to wait more than 30 second for an officer to arrive to your house.

You are making this much more difficult than it is. When you see the sign that says "Speed Limit 55", compare it with your speedometer. If your speedometer says you're going faster than 55, take your foot off the gas.

If this doesn't work, head to the local bmv with your license and explain to them you need to turn your license in because you're a complete idiot. I'm sure they will understand.

In the meantime, if you speed and get a ticket, pay it and get over it.

Your ideas are WAY off base. Speed does kill. The overwhelming majority of drivers have no idea how their car handles at speed. Most people think that they are an above average driver, but my experience shows that not to be the case.

Also consider this. If you drive 30 miles to work at 60 MPH, driving 10 MPH faster only gets you there 4.2 minutes faster. That does not account for red lights, traffic etc.

I ahve already proved that revenue is NOT a reason for speed enforcement.

So go pay your ticket and SLOW DOWN

hey...like i said... if they speed for an emergency no way would i be bitching at them... but if its for your own personal use... or beneifit... damn... you should get in trouble too... I see the world as a fair place... even though most say thats its not and most of the time its not... but things aren't fair you have to call it out... just like the civil rights era... if theres injustice its your responisbility to call it!

if all you guys proclaim that you are so rightous... pay the county clerk a "voluntary fine" every time you speed...i dont know bout you but rarely have i heard a cop gets justified sentencing... this one cop rams a vehicle on the side killing a WHOLE FAMILY... and even though it WAS DWI the cop never saw ANY DAMN JAIL TIME!!! WTF? is that fair... thats all i am staying... fairness... if the cops expects the citizen to repect the law... the COP must repect it first!... and for all you cops out there... you have the RESPONISBILITY TO FOLLOW THE LAW... from murder to littering every last bit!

oh yeah...cobra i am sorrie that you thought that the donut/coffee comment was a joke...but it was TRUE...i saw it w/ my two eyes... you want the address??? huh?? HWY 6 by williams trace at the shipleys.. saw them walk in... i mean walk...not for any emergency that i saw...

i don't get it ... i am virtually surrounded by so call righteous protector of law... and no one will admit to their wrong doings... you know most of you speed too... and don't get tickets.. cuz one thing...your badge...

and by now you know that its way pass me paying for the ticket or going to trial..
