    Americorps

    Hey guys...

Anyone ever been involved with americorps as far as the side with LE goes? I am doing this with CPD and am just trying to see what some other opinions of the program are or experiances? Thanks for your input in advance.

We had an officer or two leave hear for Vancorp (I think that's the right name). Went overseas somewhere making $90k/year tax free. He was contracted for a year and is already back. Usually they stick you in a **** hole where you wouldn't even take $200k a year, but I think our guy was in Australia somewhere.

I just know it's a lot of money, but usually dangerous.

nope.. not what i'm talkin about. This is sort of an internship with a dept but with 95% of it ride time. usually 2 - 3 times per week. Paid $200 per week and $4800 at the end of 11 months for school. Not to bad of a gig. Just wondering if anyone else has the program where they work.

Isn't that the program that Jimmy Carter started? I didn't even know it was still in existence. We had some people working in here 15+ years ago doing some cleanup or something. I just read about it in the paper. No LE involvement that I know of.
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

We don't have it in North Florida. I think it's more a South Florida thing where they have problems recruiting because they need so many Officers down there. It's a great program though. Good luck with it!

thanks apprecate the replys... from what it looks like it should be a better learning experiance than a person could ever get through the explorer program as it gives you a little more freedom to have hands on with the officers on patrol.

We shall see how it goes I suppose.

You're thinking of DynCorp. The guy you are talking about was probably in East Timor, not the best of missions going on right now..but not the worse either! I had a blast in Bosnia...and the 80K a year made it even better!
