Hello Everyone,
Just wondering what all you LEO's wear for duty gear: leather or nylon? and why? I work campus security at a local community college, for the past year and a half, and Im in the LE application process. All my duty gear is Uncle Mike's and i was thinking of switching over to leather, and i was looking to see which one you all thought was the best.

Most departments (like mine) don't give you a choice and you wear what they tell you so everyone looks the same. We wear leather for what it's worth.

I like the look of leather ( I think it looks more professional ), was wondering if leather was heavier than nylon, and also i would think that leather would last longer than nylon.

Our dept wears basketweave leather except for K9, who gets to wear bdu's and nylon. Metro Nashville PD wears patton leather, as does THP.
Bianchi has just com out with basketweave and patton leather gear that is actually nylon!! Much lighter than the actual leather gear and looks just like it. Several of our officers here have already purchased some and enjoy it. ;)

We wear nylon, and I personally don't like it. In my opinion, it doesn't look as professional and it doesn't hold up as well as leather. Basketweave is the only way to go.

I have a full rig of both. I wear the leather on patrol and at details. But when assigned to a bicycle detail...it is the nylon. It is much lighter and more comfortable.

I wear Leather with nylons underneath, just for effect. Wait...what were we talking about??? OH! Yeah, leather basketweave. ;)

jeffyc.... when you get your leathers, put some Kiwi Leather Dye on each piece, let it dry for a day... then put a light coat of Kiwi parade gloss on it and buff with your shoe brush.... nothing looks as nice as good polished leather gear.....unless you wear white shirts..then only use the leather dye, no polish.
