I'd say that that would depend on your accuracy, "readiness" and agression of the subject weilding the edged weapon. Are you aimed in? High ready? Low ready? I have yet to hear a study on this one, because of suchfactors. Holstered is holstered... there are so many things that can vary with the gun out of the holster. You could even have it behind your thigh, trying to keep from escalating. 
THen you always have to consider if there is space available to move offline? Finally, how good are you at judging distance? :D
